In depth description of the story

In depth storyline

For our storyline we had an idea in mind about having the general plot about hacking and a heist as we had a rush of cinematography, editing and mise en scene ideas. This synopsis will describe the plot we had in mind along with a director’s commentary which will be in brackets and italics.

3 Minutes was our rough idea of duration so we would have dedicated around a minute per act.

Act 1

Scene fades from black in a dark room where at the other side a person can be seen profusely concentrating whilst quickly using a keyboard as if they know exactly what they’re doing (our general consensus here is that we personally favour when a story opens with a scene that makes no sense initially but then later as the story is played back, this first scene will fall into play and make perfect sense to the viewer. This can be used by placing text such as “2 hours earlier” after this first scene. This overall gives a sense of satisfaction to the viewer as they have the feeling of solving a puzzle)

Slow moving shots could then be established over the person’s shoulder looking at the screen with command line hacking (I found this source that can easily create this effect at http://hackertyper.net/ which allows the user to input random keys that appear as hacking text) a natural key lighting would be used that is emitted by the monitors light shining on the person and around the room which also draws attention to the monitor within this setting.

After this, the hacker then is rewarded with an access granted page (done by holding the Alt key on the http://hackertyper.net/ website) followed by them celebrating. (The fade to black after this into act 2 can also connote an ending which is key for later in act 3 when the story catches up with itself)

Act 2

(Again, using this idea of adding “ X amount of time earlier”) Screen fades to black pane that displays white text stating 5 hours earlier (This gives a blurb of the story to the viewer which they can piece together as the following 2 acts play out) Then a wipe transitions this text screen by using a real world object such as a door, wall or tree to establish a daylight and natural setting that is calm with no characters in any type of frantic panic or rush, there will be three characters in this scene. (This then creates a complete juxtaposition between this act and the prior one) The group discuss the idea of a USB that has possibilities to modify any grades in college for any student but one of the most secure encryptions known. They will then further the plot by discussing ways of getting hands on it, its ‘rumoured’ location and any one associated.

Act 3

(Since this film seems to be following a non fiction story then we would edit many everyday tasks into montages to avoid any irrelevant scenes, known as elliptical editing) The three characters then discuss the benefits of this USB and decide they must get their hands on it. After this a sequence begins showing them devising a plan to steal the USB (Small touches of whit comedy can be used hear in order to further character development and portray which character has which traits, for example intelligent, dumb etc.) This sequence will only consist of one or two scenes. After this, a montage sequence can begin showing them stealing the USB, this will consisting of seeing each character’s role, in this case is: the hacker stealing the USB, lookout who will be monitoring CCTV and lastly a distraction to keep any teachers away. The person then gets the USB however the distraction and lookout are both discovered for what they’re both really doing. This then leaves the final character with the USB to panic and rush home to immediately modify the grades. This character then enters the room scene in act 1 where everything has then pieced together and fades to black and ends.

Cold Awakening

Cold Awakening

It starts off with Marcus walking with a hand held camera, just randomly filming their journey. They camera is pointed to his face, he hears a noise and looks around. He then beings to run hearing his heavy panting and the camera pointed on the floor. Then the camera drops and rolls on the floor, the view from the camera is upside because it landed the wrong way. You see Marcus fall on the floor with a bloody lifeless face, facing towards the camera.

Then it shows you the previous day. It shows you Marcus with Lewis, his best friend playing cards in room, laughing and talking etc. then they start explaining what had happened and how they ended up with just them too.

They say how that people got killed off by a disease and they don’t know why they survived.  They start thinking why, what made them so special. Then they realize that they were both approached by a man. A man who wore a hoodie and kept mysterious. They both mentioned the man both grabbed them and firmly on the right wrist as he walked past them.

They both pulled up their right sleeve and it showed 3 dots in the same place with slight bruising around them. It must have been something to do with that that guy but why them?

It came to the next morning Marcus went out for a walk around to try find some people. Lewis stayed back because he didn’t feel safe going outdoors so he stayed inside. Then the phone rings. He looks at it, confused and shocked. In his panic he answers.

A raspy voice answers after Lewis’ timid “hello”.

The man say “remember me, I am the reason you and your “friend” are still here. Now listen to me and listen good. Your friend is about to kill you so if you want to carry on breathing, I suggest you should do something about it” the phone call ended. He hung up the Lewis still held the phone to his face shocked and nervous. He didn’t know whether to believe it or not but then he thought that why would he go out so early ? he never does that.

So he left the house armed with an axe, he remembered that Marcus said he was going to the forest for something, so he made his way down. He kept in the trees making sure he wasn’t visible to him. he noticed that Marcus was recording for some reason. Lewis accidently dropped his axe as he was moving carefully and quietly. Marcus stopped, looked around. Then ran. Lewis chased after him with the axe in his hand desperately trying to catch up to him. He did. All it took was a sharp blow to the head. And marcus was down, bleeding and lifeless.

DRKN production logo

Above is the logo for our group, however the logo below is the same but we changed the aspect ratio to 16:9 so that when we either add it as an end or start slate for our film, then it will fit the screen.

Props, costumes etc

 For pros we are intending on getting;

•Fake money

 •Guns

•Suit

 •Suit case (maybe)

•Phones

 •Phone booth

For the costumes we shall be using

 •Casual clothing

 •A suit

 •Clothing with blood

In planning or fil we are planning on having 3 main settings, which is a basement or a dark room. Then also we are planning on having a house with a phone box near by. Then finally a room with good lighting to clearly expose the characters in the shot.
